What is Fresh Roots?

Fresh Roots is a by teens for teens program consisting of three parts:
the Farm Program, Business Program, and Culinary Program. It is designed to give teens job experience, help them to contribute to their community, and give them something to put on their resume that almost any college will go crazy for. Not to mention the relationships that are built.

This blog will document the 2008 Spring and Summer seasons of the UTEC Fresh Roots program.

About the Programs

The farm is an organic farm in Dracut, MA. Teens are encouraged to work and are shown how food gets from the ground to the table. The culinary program teaches teens how to cook culturally diverse food, the actual cost of food bought at the store, and how to cater events. The business program manages the farm and culinary programs by keeping inventory of what is needed and they manage the farmer's market that is held once a week. The teens also brainstorm creative ideas such as creating marketing surveys to find out what people are most interested in buying to bring the most success to the program.
